Last weekend Mission Coffee Co. offered a sneak preview of their new roastery and coffee shop on the South Side of Columbus. Mission has merged with Blank Slate Coffee, which operated as a truck in downtown Gahanna for seven years before closing up and moving.
With some personnel changes, Mission is continuing on in its space, roasting coffee and serving brewed coffee and espresso drinks from the former Blank Slate truck parked out front. The two businesses have long had a connection, as Blank Slate was Mission’s first wholesale account ever.
While the space is still a little rough, it’s already a cozy spot with tables, counters, couches.
The placement of the coffee shop is smart, as it sits next to The Fort, the City Winery location set to open this summer, and the recently announced Steelton Village development. The district should continue to grow around Mission.
Mission is still roasting as well, so you can find their beans at the shop and all around town.
Over the weekend they offered a preview of the space to anyone who purchased a bag of their special 2060 Blend. Drawing on their South High Street address, the blend features 20% Kenyan Micro-lot, 60% Ethiopian Natural, and 20% of a secret addition. “It’s the magic,” they said.
Congrats to the Mission team on getting the shop up and running! Can’t wait to see how it grows from there.
Mission will celebrate its full grand opening on Saturday, April 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
