It’s good to know that Columbus’ breakfast scene has some bright spots this year. Case in point: the addition of new options like this Grandview shop, delivering three important things – biscuits, coffee, and kindness.

Meet Rebekah Hatzifotinos, owner of Basic Biscuits, Kindness, and Coffee. Her bright and welcoming shop on Goodale Boulevard, decked in whites and bright yellows, is open in the morning hours serving all things biscuit-related.

The main entry on the menu is, of course, biscuits. And these may be mini, but they’re not basic. Hatzifotinos and her team craft a rotating selection of sweet and savory biscuits. You could go from traditional buttermilk, cheddar and jalapeño, cheddar and ham on one side, to lemon lavender, peach, cinnamon sugar on the other.

But they use the biscuit dough in everything: sliders, quiche crust, even a French toast bake.

You have two options for enjoying the biscuits, Tuesdays through Saturdays:

  1. pre-order and then pickup any time between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  2. stop by for grab-and-go starting at 7 a.m. until they sell out, sometimes by 10 a.m. (but they are open until noon)

While there are a couple small tables inside and a small patio out front, Basic Biscuits is mostly geared toward carryout.

Take a look at these adorable little biscuits!

Hatzifotinos shared a collection of biscuits with us, and we quickly polished off the whole spread and then ordered more.

Naturally, the biscuits are ideal for dipping in a bowl of chunky and well seasoned sausage gravy.

My favorite preparation was the little breakfast sliders with sausage (from Butcher & Grocer!) or bacon or ham with egg and cheese. It’d be very easy to order up and polish off a few these in one go.

Hatzifotinos and her crew have been keeping busy, so if you’re jonesing for biscuits, plan to visit early (especially Friday and Saturday, she says) or consider ordering in bulk for pickup.

Bulk items include everything from biscuit samplers to full quiches, slider packs to French toast bakes.

Everything we tried really hit the spot, and provided a bit of comfort on a chilly autumn morning. Happy to have this addition to the local breakfast scene!
