DONUTS!
Now that I have your attention, let’s recap part one of our recent Butler County trip: we’re staying in the AC Marriott in the Liberty Center, had dinner at Troy’s Cafe in West Chester, and have hit up two new stops on the Butler County Donut Trail: Central Pastry Shop in Middletown and Holtman’s Donuts in West Chester.

The boys and I brought the spoils of, er – donut-hunting back to the hotel, where we re-grouped then headed into Hamilton for breakfast at Kostas Restaurant. Before we stopped for breakfast, we admired the Alexander Hamilton statue in the center of Main Street. It’s pretty dramatic: he’s holding a letter, pointing his finger into the air, and wearing AN AMERICAN FLAG AS A CAPE.
After breakfast we snuck back to West Chester for the boys’ favorite part of the trip: the WEB Extreme Entertainment center, a complex of games, climbing walls, go-karts, laser tag, and more.
Our first stop was the indoor go-kart track.
They were so excited for this – there was no way we were doing anything else before driving the go-karts. Will was especially excited because he’s finally tall/old enough to drive his own cart.
We raced off down the track. The karts are electric, so they’re surprisingly quiet.
Afterward we spent time playing a variety of games.
We hit up the bowling lanes (my favorite part). Mark it eight, Dude.
The boys also tackled the mini climbing wall. The wall features interactive projections, so you can load up games that have you racing and climbing all over. Here are the boys playing a game in which they had to catch all the bats flying around.
We had just enough time before the we left to catch a game of laser tag. Beth and I haven’t played laser tag since high school, and the boys have never played it, but I think we all (re)discovered our love of the game. The layout made for fun exploring and the equipment was easy to handle. We made quite the team. Needless to say, every birthday party (for both the kids and adults) will involve laser tag from now on.
And then it was back to see A. Ham and his statue. We wandered along the Main Street of Hamilton a bit.
Then stopped to warm up with drinks at True West Coffee.
True West is a lovely little shop, with big windows, wooden floors, artwork on the walls, re-purposed doors for tables, and colorful decorations hanging from the ceiling.
We picked up hot chocolate for the boys, a cappuccino for Beth, and I tried their signature drink, the True West, a latte flavored with fig, vanilla, and a touch of pepper. It’s very lightly sweet. We hung out for a bit and played some board games while we warmed up.
Then posed in front of the front windows drawn with Star Wars decorations.
