While Jolly Pirate has dwindled in size over the years, it still holds a firm place in Ohio dining history. Many of the city’s older donut shops trace their heritage as Jolly Pirates franchises: both Buckeye Donuts, HoneyDip, Golden Donut all bear the echoes of Jolly Pirate locations. Now there are three left in Ohio – Grove City, Reynoldsburg, and Newark – and they’re still serving old school donuts, made fresh every day, and served in treasure chest cardboard boxes.
