We’ve been selfishly excited to have the Worthington Tavern open in our neighborhood. It’s been a nice addition to Old Worthington, with a modern pub menu, interesting drinks, a new back patio, a mini tavern pop-up during the farmers market and other events – and now the icing on the cake: the Worthington Tavern just added weekend brunch!
Since its last iteration as The Half Pint, the space has been given a makeover with browns, creams, and blues.
The new brunch features plenty of classic dishes plus some more unique finds, and it’s all well executed.
Get a look at the menu here: brunch cocktails, shareable dishes, and mains that cover chicken and waffles, steak and eggs, burritos, burgers, French toast, sandwiches, frittatas.
One of our favorites was the tavern rancheros dip from the shareables menu.
It’s like a cross between huevos rancheros and shakshuka, with a rich ranchero sauce baked into a cast iron pan with roasted poblanos, jalapenos, eggs, roja and verde salsas. Then it’s served with little wedges of refried bean quesadillas. Overall, great flavors and something unique. Side note: we did have to order more quesadillas – they go quickly!
Another standout was the egg sandwich, with a square of egg crisped up around the edges with provolone and panko, plus spinach and a chimichurri aioli. Bonus points for the side of hash browns.
Very nice version of chicken and waffles: sweet potato waffles, chicken dusted with a BBQ seasoning, and hot honey maple syrup.
Great breakfast burrito, too, filled with eggs, cilantro lime rice, carnitas, then sides of pico de gallo, salsa verde, shredded lettuce, sour cream. It came together nicely, although it needed the salsas, lettuce, etc. for a good, acidic crunch to offset the eggs and carnitas.
Worthington tavern makes a fine burger, too. The OKC burger makes an appearance on the brunch menu; you can always play the part by adding a fried egg or strips of bacon.
One of the tavern’s best additions was building a new back patio, designed to be an all-weather al fresco hangout. We’ve already enjoyed lunch, happy hour, and brunch out there, and I anticipate it being a favorite spot.
Worthington Tavern’s weekend brunch is served Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
